A Walking Tour Of Chillicothe’s Camp Sherman Places Of Interest
Corner of Paint & Water Street | Map
This final day event is special. It is a walking tour of downtown Chillicothe that provides an opportunity to see where the soldiers spent their leisure time. When given a pass, they were able to escape the confines of their military quarters and experience life in the city.
This tour will take you to more than twenty locations in and around Chillicothe that were related to Camp Sherman. These include Army Clubs One and Two. These were clubs where a soldier could come with friends and family members. While Army Club Two is long gone, Army Club One still looks pretty much as it did during the war years.
The tour will also include the sites of popular theaters from that time. The Majestic Theater played a major roll in the 1918 influenza pandemic that took the lives of so many Camp Sherman soldiers. And, there will be much more.
There will be a charge of $5 for the tour and $5 for the companion tour book.
The first tour will start at 1 p.m. from our tent located at the corner of Paint and Water Streets near the WW-I memorial. Plenty of parking in the near by lot.
